1979. World-renowned Soviet writer Chingiz Aitmatov completes his novel "And the Day Lasts Longer Than a Hundred Years," but its publication is threatened by censorship. During a trip to Europe, he discovers the opportunity to permanently settle in the West, where creative freedom, global recognition, and a life without restrictions await him. But this chance forces Aitmatov to relive his own past: the loss of his father, his difficult childhood, his first love, his family, and the journey that made him the voice of an entire nation. Reflecting on the image of the "mankurt"—a man who has lost his memory—he understands that true freedom is impossible without memory, roots, and responsibility to one's people. Aitmatov faces a choice that will determine not only his own fate, but also the fate of the work that has become a symbol of national memory and human dignity.
